Bridgewater-Raritan cutting more deeply into proposed school budget

BRIDGEWATER--The Bridgewater-Raritan school district will announce $2.4 million in additional cuts to its proposed budget next week, despite already slashing $2 million in previous drafts as the state continues to grapple with budget woes.

Bridgewater-Raritan Superintendent Michael Schilder said he plans to detail a third round of cuts to the district’s draft budget at the JFK School on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Big cuts, layoffs coming in Middletown school district

MIDDLETOWN — According to the school district,
big cuts are on their way for the coming budget
year, including layoffs, as well as a tax increase,
due to a reduction in state aid.

On March 4, the school district hosted a forum to
discuss the repercussions of the governor's state
aid cuts, and how it will affect the school's fiscal
state for the 2010-11 budget. Business

Tax hike only $6

Six dollars.

If the Department of Education reports are to be trusted it looks like there will be a tax increase in Clifton’s school budget of $76 for a house valued at $200,000.

Of that $76, $70 is fixed and cannot be changed, no matter how Clifton votes. It is for underfunded pension and for outside tuition costs. The most that can be abated is $6. I can’t wait to hear people explain that our children are not worth an additional 50 cents a month.

I believe that our taxes should be lower and our schools should be better.
